UP Kangri X: lightweight EN-B XC adventurer

The UP Kangri X is a new-generation, lightweight EN/LTF B wing aimed at pilots who want to turn every hike & fly into serious cross-country distance, without sacrificing safety or pack volume.

Hybrid 2.5-liner concept for real-world performance

As the first Kangri built on UP’s “X” 2.5-liner platform, the Kangri X combines the passive safety of a modern three-liner with the glide and speed normally reserved for two-liners. With 55 cells, a flat aspect ratio of 5.9 and an optimised line scheme, drag is significantly reduced, allowing the wing to accelerate efficiently while maintaining impressive pitch stability even in active air.

Generation-X airfoils, refined double and negative 3D shaping and reinforced front and rear section supports work together to keep the leading edge clean and rigid during accelerated flight. Air Intake Tension lines stabilise internal pressure across the chord, giving the Kangri X a solid, confidence-inspiring feel when pushing bar on long glides.

Ultra-light build, trail-ready robustness

Despite its high-B classification and XC focus, the Kangri X comes in at just 3.3 kg in size 21, thanks to UP’s Ultra Light Construction. Porcher Skytex 27 is used extensively in the canopy, with a carefully optimised internal structure and slimmer 1.6 mm rods replacing the previous 2.7 mm versions. The result is a compact, small-pack-size wing that still remains robust enough for demanding bivouac, travel and alpine use.

Packing is straightforward: the shorter, thinner rods and a 5 cm gap between front and rear rod sections allow easy folding without forcing bends. UP recommends loose storage in the supplied CompressSmart bag for maximum material longevity, especially for pilots who store their glider for longer periods between trips.

On-board handling and pilot target group

Dynamic yet precise handling

In the air, the Kangri X is described as the lighter brother of the Summit X. It converts small, broken thermals efficiently, climbs cleanly and offers pitch-damped, collapse-resistant behaviour. The proven C-handles, combined with High Performance Risers, give the pilot fine rear-riser control in accelerated flight, keeping the profile undistorted while minimising steering effort on long transitions.

For ambitious high-B pilots

UP places the Kangri X firmly in the upper EN-B segment. It is aimed at pilots flying actively with at least around 40 hours airtime per year, who value a wide usage spectrum: from after-work hike & fly, via bivouac adventures, through to ambitious XC tasks. When flown towards the top of its weight range, the wing shows its best performance and most precise handling.

Sizing, materials and setup

The Kangri X is available in three sizes: 21 (68–85 kg), 23 (75–100 kg) and 25 (85–110 kg) all sharing the same 5.9 aspect ratio and 55-cell architecture. Unsheathed aramid and Dyneema lines are used in the upper and middle cascades, with durable aramid mains and sheathed Dyneema in the brakes. Each size is delivered with a CompressSmart compression bag, spare main lines, repair sail and a small UP gift, while lightweight UP backpacks and accessories are available separately.
