The UP Trango X is a new-generation EN/LTF C cross-country paraglider that blends the passive safety of a 3‑liner with the glide performance of a 2‑liner. Aimed at ambitious, experienced XC pilots, it brings competition‑level efficiency into the high‑C class while remaining manageable for frequent flyers who enjoy dynamic, precise handling.
Trango X in brief
The Trango X is built around a 2.5‑liner hybrid concept with an aspect ratio of 6.47 and 65 cells. In size S the wing weighs just 4.05 kg, certified EN/LTF C with a take‑off range of 65–85 kg. Larger sizes cover all‑up weights up to 125 kg, making the model suitable for a wide spectrum of XC setups.
Design and technology
UP developed a new “Generation X” airfoil specifically for the 2.5‑line layout to maximise efficiency and stability at speed. Double and negative 3D shaping at the leading edge (D3D and N3D) produce a cleaner nose, improving airflow where it matters most. Mini‑ribs and a Brake Tension System ensure a sharp trailing edge for reduced drag and more effective thermalling.
Front, rear and bottom surface supports (FSS, RSS, BSS) use rods to keep the profile in shape, particularly during accelerated flight. An Optimised Line Scheme cuts total line length and drag, while Air Intake Tension lines stabilise the inlets, keeping internal pressure high across a wide range of angles of attack.
In-flight character
The Trango X is designed to climb decisively and convert even small, broken lift into altitude. Extreme pitch stability – reminiscent of pure 2‑liners – keeps the canopy parked above the pilot in strong thermals, allowing efficient glides and precise centring. The high‑performance risers enable active C‑riser control at speed, maintaining profile integrity while minimising pilot fatigue on long transitions.
According to competition results in the 2023/24 XC season, the Trango X has already proven its capability in real-world racing and big-distance flying. When the bar is pushed, the hybrid line concept delivers a tangible boost in speed and glide, turning long valley crossings into efficient, fast glides.
Construction and materials
The canopy uses a carefully tuned mix of Porcher Skytex fabrics: Skytex 32 Universal on the leading edge and design stripe, Skytex 27 Classic II on most of the top and bottom surface, and higher‑durability Skytex 40/27 Hard for cell walls and diagonals. The line set combines unsheathed Edelrid aramid with Dyneema (Liros DC series) for low stretch and minimal drag, while brake lines add sheathed Dyneema where handling wear is highest.
Who should fly the Trango X?
UP positions the Trango X clearly for skilled, sporty pilots who already feel at home on high aspect ratio C‑class wings. It rewards an active flying style with razor‑sharp feedback, direct handling and the ability to surf the smallest air movements – ideal for pilots focused on serious XC and league flying rather than casual soaring.
