MENTOR 7 – XC machine for ambitious EN‑B pilots

The NOVA MENTOR 7 is a hybrid 2.5-liner EN/LTF B paraglider created as a true “XC machine” for pilots who want maximum cross-country efficiency with high stability and comfort in real-world air. With 66 cells, a moderate aspect ratio of 5.5 and weights from 5.1 kg in size XS, it blends serious performance with a reassuring, well-damped character in turbulence.

Efficient cross-country performance

The key to the MENTOR 7’s performance is its hybrid 2.5-liner concept: two-liner tips combined with a three-liner centre section. By reducing total line length and optimising twist under speed, NOVA has significantly improved glide, especially accelerated, without adding pilot demand. The profile is tuned for pitch stability at low angles of attack, so even fully accelerated the wing cuts cleanly through rough air and maintains excellent internal pressure.

Compared with the previous generation, NOVA’s R&D team reports a larger design leap than between early and mid-series Mentors. In practice this means more top speed and better glide for long transitions, while the wing’s reactions to collapses remain well-manageable for the EN B class, even at bar.

Comfort, control and riser technology

HAC-Handles and Speedbrake Riser 2.0

The MENTOR 7 introduces the Speedbrake Riser 2.0 with height-adjustable C-handles (HAC-Handles). These allow precise pitch control in accelerated flight, bringing two-liner-style efficiency to the EN B segment. Pilots can actively manage turbulence via the C-risers with low effort, maintaining speed and glide instead of constantly reverting to the brakes.

A “Baby-B” line functions as a movable pulley on the B3 line, enabling effective C-steering despite the 2.5-liner layout. Ground handling remains straightforward: the riser set is clearly laid out, and the wing can be efficiently killed with the C-lines after landing.

Complex internal structure

Internally, the wing uses an elaborate structure with numerous rods, especially towards the rear of the canopy. This contributes to a clean sail, reduced deformation at speed and high pitch stability. To protect these rods, NOVA recommends packing with a concertina bag or pack roll instead of classic “stuffing”, accepting a small compromise in packing convenience in favour of clear performance gains.

Pilot target group and safety

The MENTOR 7 is aimed at cross-country pilots already comfortable with EN B wings who want to exploit speedbar and modern C-riser control to extend their range. Inflation is well-behaved with little tendency to overshoot, and extreme flight behaviour is considered manageable for its class. For pilots looking to learn two-liner-style pitch control in a more accessible platform, the MENTOR 7 provides a forgiving introduction.

Technical highlights and build quality

With 66 cells and a flat aspect ratio of 5.5, the MENTOR 7 balances performance and safety. Materials include Skytex 38 and 40 cloth on the surfaces, robust Skytex 40 hard for ribs, and a mix of Liros and Edelrid lines for durability and low drag. Certified take-off weights cover a wide range, making it suitable for many pilot profiles and equipment setups.

Service, colours and ordering

NOVA complements the product with extensive service options such as trim tuning, full service checks and extended warranty when maintained within the NOVA system. Several modern colour schemes are available; some sizes may have limited colour options, while the related MENTOR 7 Light version typically offers a broader palette.
