BGD Echo 2: lightweight EN‑B for all adventures

The BGD Echo 2 is the new generation of Bruce Goldsmith Design’s lightweight low‑EN/LTF‑B paraglider, created as a playful “mountain nymph” for pilots who want one wing for hike‑and‑fly, local soaring and serious cross‑country adventures.

Versatile concept: one wing, many missions
Echo 2 is essentially a lightweight Epic 2, sharing its accessible handling and safety while shedding around a kilo of weight (from 3.4 kg in XS to 4.4 kg in L). It packs small without any special folding routine, making it ideal for traveling and vol‑biv, yet remains robust enough for rocky alpine launches thanks to carefully chosen Porcher Skytex cloth weights and sheathed lower lines.

Design, performance and safety

With a flat aspect ratio of 5.2, 45 cells and a best glide around 9.5, the Echo 2 sits comfortably in the modern low‑B class. Certified EN/LTF‑B across five sizes (XS–L, 55–125 kg ranges), it offers long brake travel and precise, direct handling that clearly communicates air movements, following BGD’s “Feedback” philosophy so the wing “talks” to the pilot instead of surprising them.

Trim speed is about 39 km/h with a top speed near 53 km/h, and the canopy is designed with a solid, stable centre and progressively softer tips. This progressive stability scheme, together with triple‑finger diagonals and weight‑optimised ribs, keeps the structure coherent while helping newer XC pilots to learn to read the air and manage small tip events calmly.

Technology highlights

B/C speed steering and Parasim shaping

Borrowed from BGD’s higher‑end wings, the B/C rear‑riser steering system lets pilots safely use the full speed‑bar travel while retaining pitch control without overworking the brakes. The load is transmitted through Kevlar‑reinforced risers rather than pulleys, helping the glider stay in trim over time. BGD’s in‑house Parasim CFD simulation suite optimises the aerodynamic profile, line layout and internal strap positioning for efficiency and stability.

Smart structure and materials

Chord Cut Billow (CCB) panel shaping removes excess material along the leading edge for a smoother profile and fewer wrinkles, while multi‑plastics in the nose reinforce only where needed, avoiding long rods that complicate packing. The Echo 2 uses 27 g/m² Porcher cloth on most of both surfaces with 38 g/m² on the central leading edge, plus a fully integrated, reduced line plan using Edelrid Magix Pro Dry and Liros lines for durability and low drag.

Target pilot and typical use

Echo 2 is targeted at pilots fresh out of school looking for their first XC‑capable low‑B, as well as experienced leisure and hike‑and‑fly pilots who prioritise light weight and ease of use over maximum performance. The calm, predictable inflation, forgiving brake range and clean riser layout make it a relaxing partner in strong‑wind launches and long thermal days alike.

Colours, sizes and package

Available in five sizes (XS, S, M, ML, L) and three colourways (Coral, Pine, Sand), the wing is delivered with rucksack, riser and inner bags, compression strap, repair cloth, stickers and a small gift from BGD, covering everything needed to get airborne apart from harness, reserve and instruments.
